Installing, Activating and Uninstalling For questions regarding using My ICE Plan see FAQ's for Using My ICE Plan Tip: Trailing back slash (\) is needed during a install. Example: C:\New Folder\ or D:\New Folder\ICE\ See image example. This trailing back slash is there by default when you 1st run the install. However if you hit the change button to select another folder to install the trailing back slash is removed and needs to be typed back in otherwise all of the My ICE Plan folders will be created on the root of the drive separately and the program will not run properly.   To avoid Windows "access denied" errors for others using My ICE Plan:   Add the Everyone group to the My ICE Plan folder and set the access permissions for the Everyone group to have Full Control access.   Is My ICE Plan software easy to install? Yes! Just run the installer, answer a few simple questions and follow the prompts. I get a "JSpell" error. What is wrong? This is a "Write" permissions error. Add the Everyone group to the My ICE Plan folder and set the access permissions for the Everyone group to have Full Control access. I get a "Read only" error. What is wrong? This can be due to,  1) You are trying to run the software from a CD, 2) You do not have the proper Windows permissions set. If running from a CD you must copy the My ICE Plan Folder to any type of hard drive or writeable media. Then make sure that the Read only attribute is turned off of the My ICE Plan folders. When you copy files to a CD they become "Read Only" and when you copy them back to a hard drive many times the "Read Only" attribute is still on. Simple right click over the My ICE Plan folder, select properties and uncheck the Read only box. Make sure this happens for all of the My ICE Plan sub-folders as well. To fix a permissions problem Add the Everyone group to the My ICE Plan folder and set the access permissions for the Everyone group to have Full Control access. Does My ICE Plan require activation? Yes. After installing the software your will need to activate the product by using your Activation key that was email to you. Once activation is done the software does not need re-activation. Do I need to activate each time I move My ICE Plan software to another computer? No! Once activation is done the software does not need re-activation when you copy the software from one location or computer to the next. Re-activation is only required if for some reason you are re-installing the software as a new product. Why are admin privileges needed to install if the registry is not needed? Admin privileges are needed in order to create the shortcuts on your Start / All Programs menu. This is the only time My ICE Plan needs to use the registry and this entry is not needed to run the software. This should not be a problem since it is highly likely that you will installing this on your own home computer after purchasing the product. And it obviously makes it convenient to run the software by executing it from the Program menu. However, after the install you can just copy the folder that you installed the software in onto a external USB drive, another computer or any other location and run the software by double clicking on the icehis exe file. Thus My ICE Plan does not use or require the Windows registry to run. What is the default folder My ICE Plan is installed in? The default folder is in the root of your C drive. Examp - C:\My ICE Plan 2008\My ICE Plan Std\ if you have the standard version otherwise replace Std with Pro or Ent. Do I need a license to use My ICE Plan on other computers? No! Once activated you can use My ICE Plan on any computer you need to "in case of emergency". When a disaster strikes, the last thing anyone needs is to worry about licensed software. Additionally you do not need extra client licenses to operate the software on a home or office network. Simply install the software on one computer that will act as a "server" and on the other computers create a shortcut to launch the software. MyIcePlan was designed to allow home owners, renters and property managers to build a home inventory quickly by allowing more than one person to simultaneously work on the inventory. For more info on "Networking" MyIcePlan see the user manual. How can I uninstall My ICE Plan? You can uninstall My ICE Plan from the Windows Add and Remove program list. You will need to manually delete files and folders. The uninstall will uninstall all program files BUT will leave your data and image files alone. This was done by design to prevent accidental removal and deletion of your important files. After the uninstall has completed removing My ICE Plan software files it will open Windows explorer to the folder you installed My ICE Plan so you can delete the folders. This was done be design to prevent accidental deletion of important files. Creating and maintaining a home inventory is a major under taking and is time consuming. It would be disastrous if someone in your household accidentally ran the uninstall and deleted all your hard work. Therefore we decided that if you really wanted to uninstall the software you can run the uninstall, then manually delete the data files and image files. We also at this point are giving you the opportunity to keep the images (and data files) in case you decide you want that info. The data files will do you no good with out the software BUT the remaining images and movies can still be used as a inventory because each image file and movie is named with the item or location name and can still be viewed using other software.
