A
home inventory is a well-documented list that should contain photos of the
belongings in your home. However you may want to quickly create an inventory and
then later when you have more time add the details of each item.
Two
ways to create a quick inventory:
- Movies
- See Locations
List - use the locations / rooms list to add a movie for
each room.
- You
can also start a quick list by simply adding item records using the "Pick Lists " of My
I.C.E. Plan
-
Use sound
files to briefly describe an item by using your computers microphone and
Windows sound recorder. Just hit the Audio button or the Create Audio
File button on the data item form.

Create
a quick list if desired at 1st...
Thinking
about what you have and where it is kept
- from your memory add the more expensive items at first then add the small
less expensive items in various rooms.
To
add an item record
hit the Insert
key
or
the "Add"
button from the List menu to bring up a new item data form. Then using the Pick
List select a category from the category list, a location from the location
list and an item name from the item name list and hit the Save button. My I.C.E.
Plan will automatically add a quantity of 1 (one) when you save the record. If
any one of the above is not in the pre-populated "pick list" then you can add it
on the fly as you are adding records. When done with one item then hit the
Insert key and enter another item from your memory and keep going until you
cannot think off hand what you own. You can always add additional item details
on the form at a later date.
Use
this method to quickly create a list of items in your home generally adding the
more expensive items and then add the small less expensive items in various
rooms will at least give you a good start. You do not have to
document everything at first or try to do it have to be all at
one sitting. Use a few week ends or other free time. Also think
about creating a mental price limit for yourself at first (recording items
less than $25 at a later date, for instance). Remember it’s better to have a
brief quick inventory than no inventory at all.
Details...
When
adding records you can add all of the details as you go along or at any time.
But don't forget to add the details later if you chose not to do so at the
moment you are initially adding an item to the inventory.
