Importing contacts from other programs

To import your contact data from another program using a delimited text file make use of the Manual import option.

Importing Contacts from other programs

  1. (Figure 1) From the I.C.E. menu select the type of import you will do and the file type you are using; csv or xls  (Excel spreadsheet). It is better to use an Excel spreadsheet if possible because it can import large text fields.
  2. (Figure 2) Select the file to import from. (Check the box Skip First record)
  3. (Figure 3 and 3a) Decide what to do with any duplicate records found
  4. (Figure 4) Match the data fields from the import file to the ICE data fields. Hit the "First" button then either hit the Map by Name button or the Retrieve button to use one of the built-in map structures. You can override the data that will be imported in any field by clicking "Override" and then typing the text you want. In most cases you would not need to use that feature.
  5. (Figure 5) Once all of the data fields are matched hit Start to begin the import. You can repeat this process if you make a mistake. Use the Restore feature to bring your Contacts file the way it was prior to the last import. See Restoring to learn more.
