Using My I.C.E. Plan in a network allows multiple users to
run My I.C.E. Plan at the same time but more importantly being able use the same
database files which is really the key here. Additionally you only have to
install My I.C.E. Plan on one computer. I f there are more people
helping to create a home inventory then your inventory will be created quicker.
You can assign family members different parts of the house to inventory thus
breaking down the task. If you use My I.C.E. Plan in this manner you will have a
detailed inventory in no time at all.
To
do this
install My I.C.E. Plan
on one computer as you would normally. After
you install My I.C.E. Plan
then share the My I.C.E. Plan folder essentially using the computer you
installed My I.C.E. Plan on as a "
server"
for the other users (computers, called 'clients') to connect to the shared
folder and run My
I.C.E. Plan.
(Note
:
if you are not familiar with Windows sharing then please see Windows Help to
learn more) or ask someone to help you, but it is much easier than you
think.
Two disadvantages
about running in network mode
:
- The
software may seem to run a slower than normal when using it over a network.
This is due to a variety of reason. Your network setup and or your
computer and other hardware / operating system software. Also keep in mind
that you will be viewing images and movies which can seem slow because
they are graphic intense and large in size.
- If
multiple users are using the same inventory "list"
to work with the inventory they will have a problem when trying to tag item
records. That is, whoever started the tag process 1st has control over the
tagged records. This will only happen if someone is tagging records. To solve
this simply select one of the other four list types to work with the
inventory. Other than this anomaly multiple users can inventory using the same
list without any problems. In fact My I.C.E. Plan will alert you when someone
else is editing the same record as you are.
