You may find a need to re-assign items to other rooms
or even locations. Below are a few reasons why this may happen and how to
effectively re-assign items in a few ways that is quick and easy.
Why move multiple items from
locations or categories or insurance companies?
Here are a few scenarios:
- You are moving to a new home
and not everything will be stored at the new home. Many items you had in the
basement, attic, and garage for example will now be stored in a outside
storage facility (like U-haul or PBS Storage) because you do not have enough room in
the new home to store everything.
- You are re-arranging things (spring cleaning) and
you are moving many items between several rooms.
- You have a new insurance policy and this policy
now covers only your Fine arts and jewelry. The policy has a different policy
number than you regular home owners insurance policy. You now need to select
many different items that were listed on your home owners policy (or maybe
several policies) to the new policy.
- When you created your inventory several months ago
you entered all of your sporting goods and equipment into one category
which was called Sporting Equipment. But now you want to change that and move
items that are related to camping to the Camping Equipment category, and items
that are related to exercise to a new category called Exercise Equipment and
all items related to hunting to Hunting Equipment.
- You are moving and your now have to change the address of your home
and even the nik-name. However most items will stay in the same rooms in the
new home.
- You have a new insurance company for your home owners insurance.
As you can see from the above scenarios that moving many items
listed in many rooms or listed in other ways could require allot of
time if you had to edit each record and make the change. Here is how you get
around that.
For scenarios
1-4 you could use the "Re-assign" feature
built into the TreeView procedure. See Re-assigning many items and view the help and images
to learn more.
For scenarios 5
and 6 you just simply type in the new name of the Location or
Room name or Insurance company and all records that were listed for that
location or room or insurance company will be changed. The same is true for
re-assigning categories, retailers or manufactures.
Let say you listed 20 items in a category called Equipment. But later down
the road you don't like that name (or you noticed you mis-spelled it) you can
change it by updating the category name from the Categories Pick List and all
records listed under Equipment will now display the new name.
