There are a few ways to
Re-assigning items. In this topic we will discuss re-assigning (moving) multiple
item records at once. That is to say multiple item records from many different
sections. Example: you want to select 30 items stored in 5 different rooms to
one room or to entire new room in another location (building). You can only do this type of multiple move
from TreeView.
For other methods of reassigning
multiple items not like described above (such as a whole location or
insurance company) or even to just reassign a single item then see Overview of Re-assigning
items.
Why move multiple items from multiple
locations or categories or insurance companies?
Here are a few scenarios:
- You are moving to a new home and not everything
will be stored at the new home. Many items you had in the basement, attic, and
garage for example will now be stored in a outside storage facility (like
U-haul or PBS Storage as an example) because you do not have enough room in the
new home to store everything.
- You are re-arranging things (spring cleaning) and
you are moving many items between several rooms.
- You have a new insurance policy and this policy
now covers only your Fine arts and jewelry. The policy has a different policy
number than you regular home owners insurance policy. You now need to select
many different items that were listed on your home owners policy (or maybe
several policies) to the new policy.
- When you created you inventory several months ago
you entered all of your sporting goods and equipment into one category
which was called Sporting Equipment. But now you want to change that and move
items that are related to camping to the Camping Equipment category, and items
that are related to exercise to a new category called Exercise Equipment and
all items related to hunting to Hunting Equipment.
As you can see from the above scenarios that
moving many items listed in many rooms or other ways could require allot
of time if you had to edit each record and make the change. Using TreeView
this becomes very easy. Simply right click over the new location, or new
category or new insurance company and select Reassign items to this
.... See figure 1 then at
the next window tag the items to move. See figure 2 Hit the Move items to Assignment
List button and then finally hit the Complete
Reassignment button (figure 3).
